PORTO DA CRUZ
SEPTEMBER
An amphitheatre for the North Sea

Route

  • Walk along the sea to Engenho do Norte, overlooking Penha d'Águia, sea and geological formations.

  • History: Slavery and sugar cane, American grape wine production and tales of witches and wizards.

  • Visit to Engenho, the history of sugar on the island of Madeira, the production of Rum and local products.

  • Gastronomic tasting and mandolin concert at Engenho.

RIBEIRA BRAVA
OCTOBER
From the sea to the mountain where South meets North

Route

 

  • Visit to the Ethnographic Museum of Madeira.

  • Concert of mandolins, history and handicrafts in the village of Ribeira Brava.

  • Dance of the Swords* together with the visitors and decorate the boat with flowers.

  • In the Serra d'Água Valley, stop for a tasting of the traditional Poncha at Taberna da Poncha and a small chamber music concert.


Ribeira Brava: “Village of three hundred fires” that, after long days of walking, finds a raging stream.
